Adult Therapy Services

At Moonshot Therapy & Wellness, we specialize in treating adults with communication, cognitive, and swallowing impairments using evidenced-based practices, innovative therapeutic techniques, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This approach embodies Einstein’s quote that, “problems cannot be solved by using the same level of thinking that created them.”

We are dedicated to providing functional therapeutic interventions that increase patient outcomes, and ongoing education so that patients may make informed decisions regarding their care.

With patient consent, family members and caregivers are invited to be a part of the therapy process. Participation may range from simply observing therapy sessions to actively engaging in caregiver coaching or learning how to help their loved one practice new skills within their daily routines. We believe in the value of family and caregiver participation.

The Benefits of In-home Therapy

In-home therapy gives us the opportunity to step into our patients' real lives, discover what is important to them, and identify ways that we can help improve their quality of life.  Transportation issues and physical limitations are not a barrier with in-home therapy, so there is no burden on caregivers to drive to weekly therapy sessions. Plus, we can offer functional solutions to our patients' daily challenges by practicing strategies and skills in their normal environment.

Swallowing Disorders

Oral and Pharyngeal Dysphagia - Oral Care - Dietary Modifications

Not only is eating a necessity, but it is also a highly social activity.  Swallowing disorders (termed "dysphagia") can be caused by a variety of factors and can affect people across the lifespan. Our swallowing therapy sessions will be guided by an initial assessment, accounting for medical history to determine the possible cause of the problem. We listen to our patients' symptoms and conduct a clinical evaluation to determine an appropriate plan for treatment. Based on our evaluation results and our patents' goals and values, we treat the problem through a combination of specialized swallowing exercises, compensatory strategies, postural maneuvers, and/or diet adjustments to increase the safety and effectiveness of their swallow.

Dementia

Alzheimer's Disease - Parkinson’s Disease - Memory Loss - Cognitive Changes

Dementia is an umbrella diagnosis that accounts for significant changes in a person's ability to live independently. We create treatment plans that maximize our patient's spared abilities, and we take the time to educate and train caregivers along the way. We are uniquely educated in the area of cognitive therapy and can provide insight to the type, severity, and stage of the dementia that a patient presents with. Additionally, we use our Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) training to support families as their loved one's dementia progresses. Our goal is to improve our patients' quality of life as much as possible while reducing their family members' experience of frustration and burnout.

Language Disorders

Aphasia - Reading and Writing Impairments - Social and Pragmatic Language Difficulties

Language refers to the way that words are used to convey thoughts and connect with others.  Patients with acquired language disorders may have difficulty understanding words, finding the right words to communicate, or forming sentences. Language disorders are often associated with strokes, dementia, brain injuries, and degenerative conditions. Our language therapy sessions stimulate the affected parts of the brain to restore skills that have been lost. We also teach supportive strategies to help our patients speak, understand, read, write, and communicate successfully within their daily lives.

Caregiver Coaching

Dedicated support, recommendations, and resources for families, loved ones, and care providers

We partner with caregivers to preserve the freedom and independence of their loved ones. No matter what diagnosis a family is navigating, we work hard to provide them with the education, strategies, and resources they need to make informed healthcare decisions. As a caregiver coach and Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Jennifer has walked alongside many families on their journey with dementia. You don't have to do this alone!

Communication Disorders

Voice Disorders - Dysarthria - Apraxia of Speech (AOS) - Neurogenic Stuttering

Communication is the cornerstone of human interaction.  Patients with speech disorders may have difficulty engaging with others due to the inability to produce speech accurately or at an appropriate rate or volume. Speech disorders are often associated with Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cerebral palsy (CP), head/neck cancer, tracheostomies, stuttering, and strokes. Our speech therapy sessions will address all subsystems involved in speech production to improve speech and vocal quality while also increasing confidence to communicate.

We are accepting new clients.
